Because of the census, Mary and Joseph were compelled to make the journey from their home in Nazareth to the place of origin of Joseph's family, about a week's journey on foot. This was particularly difficult for Mary, who was in the last stages of pregnancy. We don't know all of the people they saw along the way, and who knows if donkey rentals were available, but sometimes it is fun to imagine!
